“About 1,700 people gathered at Stanford University for the memorial of David Goldberg on Tuesday.” — News release.
It was the culture of mechanical hi tech heartlessness paying homage, en masse, to the higher and deeper eternal virtues of human existence. The outpouring was a prayer service, demanded by their collective conscience, to atone for neglected human values in a Silicon Valley culture of automation, information technology and worship of S.T.E.M. It was a vacation and a holiday to give homage to the heart and to the soul. These had been lying dormant while the middle class was shrinking, the threat of nuclear terrorism was rising, hunger, disease and abuse were rampant and the degradation of humanity was intensifying — in the endless political, social and economic catastrophes plaguing current News affairs on the Planet. It is Cry, the Beloved Country all over again, and indeed we must be thankful for this University celebration of the things that matter most.
